The SUbteams

CHASSIS

The Chassis sub-team is responsible for designing and manufacturing the primary structure of the car, ensuring it is lightweight, stiff, and compliant with Formula Student safety regulations. The team integrates key systems such as the cockpit, crash structures, steering, and braking while accommodating both internal combustion and high-voltage hybrid components. Driver safety, ergonomics, and overall vehicle performance are central to all design decisions.

Powertrain

The Powertrain sub-team designs, builds, and integrates the hybrid propulsion system that drives the car. This includes the internal combustion engine, electric motor(s), energy storage system, drivetrain, and control strategies governing power delivery. The team focuses on efficiency, reliability, and seamless interaction between electrical and mechanical systems, with a strong emphasis on high-voltage safety, cooling, and control through the ECU and inverter.

Hybrid System

The Hybrid sub-team develops the low- and high-voltage systems that enable the hybrid architecture. Responsibilities include wiring looms, sensors, data acquisition, safety circuits, and control electronics for both the hybrid system and vehicle subsystems. Ensuring reliability, compliance with Formula Student electrical regulations, and safe operation of high-voltage components is a core priority.

Vehicle Dynamics

The Vehicle Dynamics sub-team optimises how the car behaves on track by analysing and refining suspension geometry, steering, tyres, and overall handling characteristics. Using simulation and real-world testing, the team works to balance mechanical grip, stability, and driver confidence while accounting for the additional mass and torque characteristics introduced by the hybrid system.

Aerodynamics & Composites

The Aerodynamics & Composites sub-team designs aerodynamic devices and composite structures to maximise performance while minimising weight and drag. Using CFD, wind tunnel testing, and material research, the team develops wings, bodywork, and composite components that improve downforce and efficiency, all while remaining cost-effective and structurally sound.

Media & Marketing

The Media & Marketing sub-team manages the team’s public image and communications. This includes social media, branding, photography, videography, and promotional content. The team plays a key role in showcasing the technical achievements of the hybrid car and engaging with sponsors, students, and the wider Formula Student community.

cOMMERICAL

The Commercial sub-team is responsible for securing and maintaining relationships with sponsors and partners who make the project possible. This includes outreach, sponsorship proposals, budgeting, and financial planning. The team ensures the sustainability of the project while supporting the technical teams with both financial and in-kind resources.

Business

The Business sub-team is responsible for the strategic and operational planning of the team. This includes cost reporting, budgeting, business case development, and preparation for Formula Student static events. The team ensures that technical decisions are financially viable and aligned with long-term project goals, particularly in balancing performance, cost, and sustainability within a hybrid vehicle programme.
